Business’ green plans egg-sasperate climate change campaigners

The survey, by serviced office provider MWB Business Exchange, found that more than one in five businesses have no plans to save energy over the bank holiday, with even basic measures like turning off lights being ignored.

In fact, over a third of employees said they did not think their company would turn off all the lights, with 83% admitting they wouldn’t be switching off electrical devices such as computers or photocopiers, and two thirds adding that they would leave the heating on.

Just one in ten think their company is very efficient when it comes to saving energy, with half of businesses not actively promoting energy-saving practices.

“Huge amounts of energy will be wasted by heating offices and leaving electrical devices on for four days, despite the office being closed,” said the company.

John Spencer, the company’s chief executive, added: “It’s shocking that so many businesses are not planning to do very simple things that could save a huge amount of electricity.

“It is completely unnecessary to heat buildings or leave printers on stand by when you know no one is going to be in the office for at least four days.

“British businesses are constantly claiming they are going ‘green’ but it appears that along the way they’ve forgotten the most simple ways to save energy and reduce their carbon footprint,” he said.
